Channel 42 is an immersive VR (Virtual Reality) experience designed in Unreal Engine 4.

This experience takes place in a vast void littered with screens and rusty chains.

Each screen houses a monster who appears as a twisted mimicry of humanity.

Throughout the experience, the sounds of a lone violin and the incomprehensible babbling can be heard.

Denizens

When humanity affixed its gaze on the television, a bond with another dimension was formed. This connection allows outsiders to peer into our world from the other side of the screen.

After viewing humanity through the context of media, the inhabitants of this dimension only saw two types of people: The Speakers, and The Watchers.

The denizens of Channel 42 are based on the phrase "You cannot grasp its true form", originating from Lovecraftian Horror. This phrase is used to describe creatures that are beyond human understanding, they typically appear as a writhing mass of tentacles, eyes, and teeth.

In this case, humanity is beyond the understanding of the denizens. When viewed through the other side of the screen, humanity appears as a black mass littered with eyes and teeth.

The denizens revere humanity, thus they try to mimic our appearence.

The Speakers

The denizens who base their appearances on those that appear on television and in media. The Speakers notice that public figures are admired by all of humanity and wish to emulate them.

Denizens mimic the most apparent traits of those they admire, thus Speakers copy gestures, speech, and teeth.

The Watchers

The denizens who base their appearances off the audience and viewers.

Viewers intrigue the denizens, as they cannot fathom why most of their time is spent idling gazing into a screen.

The Watchers covet what they don't understand and so they mimic the viewer's shape and rapid eye movement.
